The Rhodesian Ridgeback on the hunt

Ayan received recognition for the Cantonal Bernese obedience test on June 24, 2023 and is now officially allowed to go hunting with me.

The following had to be taken during the exam.

Walking on a leash: Walking on a leash is best tested when walking through a thick group of poles. The handler should be able to change speed and stop on the judge's command, while the dog must also stop. The dog should not hinder its handler; in particular, it must walk around on the correct side of the poles on its own. The handler may not lead the dog by the leash, but must allow it to hang freely.

Laying down and silence: The handler stalks the dog on a leash to a point determined by the judge. There he lays the dog down freely or, at his own discretion, ties it to a hunting object (e.g. backpack) or fixed object (e.g. tree). Everything should be as calm as possible, as if on a stalking trip. The handler then moves away from the dog that has been laid down with the judge until the latter can no longer see him. After reaching cover, wait one minute, then the area handler or the judge fires a shot. After the shot, wait another minute, then the handler slowly returns to the dog.

Call: The call can be tested using the following two methods, whereby the dog handler informs the judge of the chosen method at the beginning of this test. The dog should approach quickly and happily in both methods. The dog handler then immediately puts the dog back on the leash. Method 1 The dog handler lets his dog loose in the open field and sends him ahead. As soon as the dog has moved at least 30 m away from the dog handler, the judge gives the dog handler the command to call the dog over using visual and/or auditory signals. If the dog does not move far enough away from the dog handler, the call can be repeated using method 2. Method 2 The dog handler orders his dog to "sit" at a location specified by the judge. The dog handler then moves at least 30 m away from the dog and then calls him off using visual and/or auditory signals on the judge's command.
